Okay. The preseason is over. The team has set its initial 53-man LA Rams roster (somewhat) and their 16-man practice squad (again, somewhat) and now the team can turn its attention to Week 1, and taking on the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. But rather than do a deep dive into all of the factors likely to influence that game, it's been some time since we have discussed this team's secondary.

And it's long overdue.

While the Rams preseason has been almost entirely about defensive backs vying for consideration to make the team's roster or practice squad, we can now start to talk about the team's starting secondary. Unlike many NFL teams, the Rams chose not to send their starting defensive backs to te football field throughout the preseason. As a result, some re-introductions are in order.

This is not the 2023 version of the secondary. While the team did get plenty of back for the buck last season, the truth of the matter is that the team did not invest a great amount of bucks to begin with. And so, the team entered the season with a self-imposed ceiling to their pass coverage.

That is not the case for 2024. The LA Rams invested in the secondary, not just by throwing stacks of cash at the group, but by leveraging some cost-effective contracts to land what could be one of the best NFL secondaries of 2024. Of course, that is best on the high reward upside of so many new contributors.

But the Rams are doing more than rolling the dice on some risky defensive backs. This secondary has been assembled with intricate care and meticulous attention to detail. The group not only complements one another, but this secondary was constructed with a clear focus on improving the group's ability to create takeaways. Let's see what that means:
