The LA Rams are fielding a very young defense. And to complicate matters even worse, this is a defense that is led by first-time Defensive Coordinator Chris Shula. To say that the future of the defense is a mystery is a severe understatement. Nobody 'knows' what this defense will do this season. Ah, but that does not stop some marginal NFL 'analysts' from speculating about the team.
One such ESPN NFL 'analyst' has already publicly shared that the Rams defense is on track to be the worst defense in the NFL by the end of the 2024 NFL season. Of course, that analyst is none other than Benjamin Solak, who likens himself more of a Skip Bayless hot take afficionado than a true analyst. But, he made the statement nevertheless:
The question is, might he he correct?
Before we answer that question, we must understand how effective trolling works. To truly be effective, trolling must have some element of emotional content to it. Whether that is fear, or anger, or even joy to it. Then, trolling must be stated in such a way that it is impossible to defend with facts.
Revisit what Solak states about the Rams' defense once more. His conjecture states that the Rams' defense "might be the worst defense in the league when the season ends." This is another way of saying that it might NOT be the worst defense, or that it might be the BEST defense. He doesn't know. He is merely tapping into the fears of Rams fans that life without All-Pro DT Aaron Donald will be a nightmare for the Rams fanbase. But, here are reasons why it won't be.:
The Conductor was the true 2023 DROY
Despite the voting council getting it completely wrong, Rams NT Kobie Turner was hands-down the true DROY for 2023. He had the greatest number of quarterback sacks than any other rookie in the rookie class of 2023. And he is even bigger, better, and more fired up this season:
And there's the rub after all, isn't it? As hot and productive as The Conductor was in his rookie season, he is back and better than ever in 2024. He is no longer the new kid on the block trying to prove to himself and his teammates that he belongs in the NFL. Now he has a season under his belt, and he has already shown leadership by reaching out and welcoming rookies to the team. He is going to be fun to watch this year.
