For the 2023 NFL season, the LA Rams have taken on the tall task of teaching nearly half their roster how to play competitive professional football. Unfortunately, the coaches can only take rookies so far. And even veterans, who have started football games in the past, need to don the pads and retrain their bodies once more for the burst, agility, and daily grind. And those veterans have all been here before.

For the rookies, they have a longer learning curve to overcome. And that is simply the way it goes, as the greatest teacher is experience. By the definition of a rookie, we know that they are entering the LA Rams 2023 Training Camp with a severe experience deficit. Beyond that, we know that the only way to improve the situation is to give the rookies a chance to earn experience in live NFL games

As Sean McVay stated in his acceptance speech; "Character and relationships are the only things that last . . . " That is truly the foundation of what the LA Rams team must forge this season in training camp.

And while we don't know where the Rams will end at the end of the 2023 NFL season, I can tell you that upon seeing this episode, the LA Rams are truly establishing the right basic foundation at this modest beginnings foundation.

The road ahead will be a mix of achievements and setbacks. The LA Rams are harnessing unbridled enthusiasm, optimism, and energy in their offseason workouts. But when the pads go on, this becomes football. When preseason games arrives, this becomes real competition. When the season starts, the kid gloves come off and the fiber and will of each player will be pushed to the very limit.

Nothing comes easy in the NFL, nor should it. This is a tough sport, a physical sport. The LA Rams must earn their wins. And it won't be easy at first. Some teams are returning a majority of their starters from a year ago. The LA Rams, particularly on special teams and defense, will be new faces playing alongside new faces.
