Stafford resumes full workload, and more positive Rams injury news
By Bret Stuter
And now we see why the Rams added a RB
When the LA Rams signed free agent running back SaRodorick Thompson with less than a week to go before the deadline for NFL teams to trim their rosters to 53 players, the expectation for other news about an injury to a running back was expected. And right on cue, HC Sean McVay shared that the team held RB Boston Scott out of the joint practice session with the Texans due to a bruise on his leg.
Or as he described it, a 'little bit of a leg contusion.'
While he did state that Scott would get a big workload in the third and final preseason game, I am simply not convinced that will be the case. If he cannot practice on a Thursday, I fail to see how he can shoulder a huge workload just two days later in Game 3 of the preseason.
And if that was truly the case, why sign another running back in the first place?
It makes more sense that the Rams are uncertain of what Boston Scott's workload may be for the final preseason game, and SaRodorick Thompson is simply a move by the front office to replace a donut in the trunk with fully inflated and rimmed spare tire in case of an unexpected flat in the final preseason contest.
The news about Boston Scott is not exactly encouraging news if you had hopes of his remaining on the team after roster cuts. Typically, the final preseason game is a stage for NFL teams to showcase the players who have little to no chance to make the roster. It's a courtesy by the coaching staff to place those players on display to increase their video footage, and thereby their chances, that may impact their signing on with a new NFL team on or after cutdown day.
If the team is planning to place a heavy workload on Boston Scott, he may not be part of the team's plans for 2024.
As always, thanks for reading.
