Byron Young making case for NFL DROY
It was clearly obvious that when it came to the LA Rams shopping list for the 2023 NFL Draft, the Rams had to address their need at outside linebacker multiple times. But perhaps their first crack at the position was a home run. After all the data has been added up for the first three games of the 2023 NFL season, the Rams outside linebacker Byron Young has amassed 2.0 quarterback sacks, 14.0 tackles, 4.0 quarterback hurries, 10.0 quarterback pressures, and 3.0 quarterback knockdowns.
The beautiful thing about LA Rams rookie outside linebacker Byron Young is that he is getting better with each passing week:
That looks like a veteran play, doesn't it.
Rookie OLB Byron Young is going to be something special
Okay, but is getting better each week the equivalent of becoming very good? Or was his floor just so poorly played that improving simply does not move the needle? To understand that, we have to dig a bit deeper into his week-by-week performance. As we check out the comparisons for each week, it's clear that he has been relied upon more and more, and has rewarded that growing trust with better and better production.
So did he show up in Week 3? Well, you tell me:
While it's great to witness the dawn of a new NFL pass rusher in horns, I don't think we've even begun to scratch the surface of just how good Byron Young can elevate his game this season. Keep in mind that Young once managed a Dollar General store. While he was always projected to have an immediate NFL impact, he fell to the LA Rams and the 77th overall pick in the draft. That meant that he was the 12th edge rusher taken in the 2023 NFL Draft.
