The LA Rams try to minimize injuries to starters and key role players, but injuries are part of the game it seems. While the Rams had a solid plan to restock the roster with solid depth, bumps, bruises, sprains and strains have already taken a toll on the team.

The two most affected positions so far, even before the team competes in a single game this season, are offensive tackle and cornerback.

It seemed to strain HC Sean McVay's demeanor is his post-practice press conference on Friday, August 9, 2024. He had several heavy sighs as he spoke about injuries and the impact that those injuries had on the team. Is was a scene that was reminiscent of previous season pressers in 2022 when the team was struggling.

You can see for yourself:

With the team facing a very potent and motivated Detroit Lions in Ford Field on Sunday Night Football, all hands on deck is understood. But for the Rams, the all hands on deck is not exactly having the intended effect:

Okay. so let's break this down for you. The Thursday Injury Report for Week 1 is out, and the following players are listed

LA Rams

  • Jonah Jackson -Center - Shoulder - Full Practice
  • Puka Nacua - Wide Receiver - Knee - Full Practice
  • Rob Havenstein - Right Tackle- Ankle - Limited Practice
  • Decobie Durant - Conerback - Hamstring - Limited Practice

Darious Williams was listed as limited practice, but as he has been placed on IR, he will no longer appear on the Weekly Injury Report.

Detroit Lions

  • Ifeatu Melifonwu - Safety - Ankle - Limited Practice
  • DJ Reader - Defensive End - Quad - Limited Practice
  • Loren Strickland - Safety - Thumb - Did Not Practice

The LA Rams secondary, while still rather robust at the safety position, is now quite thin at cornerback. With Cobie Durant nursing a hamstring injury himself, the team has Tre'Davious White (himself coming off a 2023 injury), and rookies Josh Wallace and Charles Woods.

With the team depleted at cornerback for at least four weeks, you are probably on track to expect the team to sign another cornerback to help out the team though the period until the Week 6 BYE. Stay tuned, as that could happen very quickly.

And as always, thanks for reading.
