Proposed Vita Vea trade wouldn’t move the needle for Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are all-in on a Super Bowl. They proved that with the moves they' made this offseason. Maybe they're not done adding pieces to their championship-caliber roster.

Two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Vita Vea has requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not only that, but it's been reported that Vea would like to play for either the Raiders or a team in California. As you know, the Rams play in California ... so they'd check the box for Vea.

That being said, the Rams might not be the best fit for Vea and the style of defense he plays. Plus, the LA defense is already set up pretty well. They probably don't need Vea.

Even so, Buccaneers writer Josh Crysler of The Pewter Plank came up with three possible Vea trade proposals. The one involving the Rams had L.A. sending Braden Fiske, Colby Parkinson, and a sixth-round pick in next year's draft.

"Adding Vea to a defensive front that already features Myles Garrett, Byron Young and Kobie Turner — on top of Aaron Donald potentially coming out of retirement — would simply be unfair to the rest of the league. The Bucs would have to account for that in trade talks and demand a premium return from Los Angeles.

"Colby Parkinson is coming off a career year with 400 yards and eight touchdown receptions, but the depth of their tight end room could make him a movable asset. Braden Fiske isn’t a seamless fit to replace Vea as the nose tackle per se, but he’d be a disruptive force on the interior, as he proved when he recorded 8.5 sacks as a rookie back in 2024."

If this deal was Parkinson, a sixth-round pick, and someone like Ty Hamilton, that would be a different story. That's not where Crysler went, though. Fiske is not a player the Rams would want to -- or should -- part with. He might mostly be a backup, but they clearly value his versatility.

And, while Vea is a veteran star, he simply isn't someone the Rams really need at the moment. They are happy with Poona Ford at nose tackle and adding Vea would simply be a "Rich get richer" proposition. The Rams' offseason moves have already positioned them to succeed. Vea, although an excellent defensive tackle, isn't part of that equation.

Still, don't be surprised to continue seeing the Horns linked to these types of trades. They've proven that they're going all-in this year, and even if they don't need a certain player, that might not stop them from pursuing further additions.
