Rams 53-man roster cut tracker 2026: Live updates and analysis

The Los Angeles Rams have arrived at what may be the most difficult time of the season. With preseason games completed, it's up to the coaching staff to decide who remains on the roster, who to transfer (via the risky NFL waiver wire) to the practice squad, and who will simply have to fulfill football careers elsewhere.

Los Angeles must anticipate potential suspensions for wide receiver Puka Nacua as well as left tackle Alaric Jackson due to offseason incidents. Meanwhile, the team may welcome back for-now-retired defensive lineman Aaron Donald. As if that isn't enough to make fans' heads spin, trade speculation over veteran quarterback Stetson Bennett is heating up.

Post-cutdown-and-practice-squad-signing analysis

Knowing who made the practice squad makes evaluating some of the 53-man roster decisions a bit easier as well. For example, it was somewhat surprising to see rookie nose tackle Tim Keenan III left off, but he passed through waivers without issue. Ditto for cornerback Cam Lampkin, who had a strong training camp and preseason and seemed like a candidate for the 53.

The headline, of course, was the return of defensive tackle Aaron Donald. After months of anticipation, Donald rejoined the Rams on a one-year deal worth up to $30 million with playoff incentives. The NFL granted LA a two-week roster exemption allowing Donald to practice without counting against the one of the 53 spots. Thus far, the Rams have yet to capitalize on the extra temporary roster opening.

The other most exciting about the initial group was the inclusion of undrafted rookie and preseason star Wesley Bailey, who essentially forced his way onto the roster against the odds. The Rams typically don't carry five edge rushers, but they made an exception for Bailey, accurately judging that other candidates like Lampkin or Keenan could clear waivers and be stashed on the practice squad.
