Los Angeles Rams fans are hoping for a quick start to the 2025 NFL season. To be honest, I dont see that the NFL schedulers are in agreement. While the Rams overall strength of schedule may be favorable, the early part of the season is not. Even the teams that were less competitive in 2024 offer up less advantage to the Rams than you might expect from the Rams.
In short, the Rams have far more early games than you might expect for seven games scheduled before the BYE.
If the Rams are not playing weaker opponents on the road, they are traveling to England for a showdown that will be very disruptive to players and coaches in terms of maintaining a healthy and productive sleep schedule.
And the Rams' brutal start gives the Seahawks a sneaky edge in the early half of the 2025 NFL schedule.
Let's revisit the Rams' schedule up to their Week 8 BYE week, but add the opponent's 2024 record as well:
Los Angeles Rams Regular Season Games (all times are PT)
- Week 1 - Houston Texans (10-7) at Los Angeles Rams (1:25 PM)
- Week 2 - Los Angeles Rams at Tennessee Titans (3-14) (10:00 AM)
- Week 3 - Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) (10:00 AM)
- Week 4 - Indianapolis Colts (8-9) at Los Angeles Rams (1:05 PM)
- Week 5 - San Francisco 49ers (6-11) at Los Angeles Rams (TNF) (5:15 PM)
- Week 6 - Los Angeles Rams at Baltimore Ravens (12-5) (10:00 AM)
- Week 7 - Los Angeles Rams @ Jacksonville Jaguars (4-13) (6:30 AM) (@ Wembley Stadium)
- Week 8 - BYE
As you can see, three things stand out about the Rams' first seven games of the season. First of all, the Rams play five AFC opponents out of their first seven games. Secondly, the Rams play three of the NFL Division winners in the first seven games, two of which are played on the road on the East Coast, and both at a 1:00 pm ET start (which is a brutal 10:00 am PT kickoff time).
And finally, the Rams seventh game will be played at 6:30 am PT against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
That's quite a gauntlet.
The Seattle Seahawks tied the Rams at 10-7 in 2024, but due to the strength of schedule tie-breaker, the Rams claimed the NFC West Division title. So what does their schedule look like?
Seattle Seahawks 2025 schedule (all times are PT):
Here is the 2025 Seattle Seahawks schedule:
- Week 1 at home versus the 49ers (6-11) - 1:05 pm
- Week 2 at the Steelers (10-7) - 10 am
- Week 3 at home versus the Saints (5-12) - 1:05 pm
- Week 4 at the Cardinals (8-9) (Thursday Night Football) - 5:15 pm
- Week 5 at home versus the Buccaneers (10-7) - 1:05 pm
- Week 6 at the Jaguars (4-13) - 10 am
- Week 7 at home versus the Texans (10-7) (Monday Night Football) - 7 pm
- Week 8 - BYE
As you can see, even with similar opponents, the Seahawks have fewer travel miles in store, have more home games, and their home games come at regular intervals. The Rams have two periods of multiple road games. And the Seahawks have just two 10:00 am starts in the first eight weeks of the 2025 NFL season.
The Rams have three 10:00 am starts, and one starts at 6:30 am.
Is it enough to make a difference? Ultimately, football games must be decided on the football field, regardless of where or when. But direct comparison of the Rams versus the Seahawks schedule shines a more favorable light on the Seahawks' trek in 2025.
I'm not willing to throw in the towel just yet. But the Rams definitely have some tough sledding early in the 2025 NFL season. The Texans at home and road trips to face the Eagles and Ravens are no picnic. And embedding the Jaguars game in England is brutal.
If the Rams hope to improve in 2025, they will earn it. This may not be the most difficult schedule in the NFL, but the early going certainly has plenty of early morning rises embedded in it. Hopefully, the Rams will learn to adapt and adjust to those early morning games.
As always, thanks for reading.
