Rams can't find end zone, and lose another winnable game as TD search continues

The Rams kicked five field goals. But field goals won't win games this season.

Ah the LA Rams offense, on paper, is as good as it gets. But on the football field, this is a cast of players who seem to have a lack of focus, purpose, and discipline. The Rams have played nine games so far in 2024. The team has score 185 points. Unfortunately for the offense, 22 points are a direct result of an opportunistic defense. So 163 points belong to the offense, and 22 points belong to the defense.

That means that the Rams offense has averaged 18.1 points per game so far in 2024. That drops the team's offensive output as the 25th-ranked offense of the NFL. That means this offense is less effective than the offenses of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chicago Bears, or the Dallas Cowboys.

And yet, the Rams spending more on the offensive side of the football than any other team in the NFL.

Rams fans have been impatient with rookie kicker Joshua Karty. But in Week 10, he was the only player on the Rams roster who was able to score. He kicked five of six field goals, and would have made six of six if not for a false start penalty that erased a 52-yarder. On the ensuing 57-yard attempt, he missed.

The Rams are now 4-5. But fans cannot expect much success from this team if the offense fails to score touchdowns. In nine games, this offense has scored just 17 touchdowns. If you think that is a huge sum, it average out to just 11.3 points per game. That is less than two touchdowns per contest. And this was supposed to be a team where the offense did the heavy lifting. That's simply not happening.

Former sure-scoring running back Kyren Williams has been denied the end zone in two consecutive games. Proficient WR Demarcus Robinson, a player who put up five touchdowns in his previous four games, failed to cross the plane. Undrafted rookie defensive back Jaylen McCollough has scored as many or more touchdowns than all but three players on the Rams offense.

And that is after nine games.

No tight end on this team has scored a touchdown. No running back not name Kyren Williams has scored a touchdown. No wide receiver not named Demarcus Robinson or Cooper Kupp has scored a touchdown.

With those statistics facing defensive coordinators, it's easy to see why the Rams are unable to put points on the scoreboard. This offense relies too heavily on too few players. As we were able to foresee way back in early October 2024, the team simply has not opened this offense up to get more players involved. Now, with RB Kyren Williams unable to score, the entire offense has been neutralized.

Until the offense wakes up from this mid-season slumber, wins will come few and far between. Unfortunately, the Rams have fallen to 4-5, and have lost ground in the NFC West Division. The team must run the table against NFC West opponents, and need to win at least seven of their last eight games to truly have a fighting chance in postseason competition.

Final Score

Miami Dolphins 23
Los Angeles Rams 15
