The Los Angeles Rams concluded their annual minicamp and must now prepare to reconvene for the 2025 Training Camp on July 22, 2025. The training camp roster is filled with 90 players who are passionately vying for roles on this team for the 2025 NFL season. It may be an annual cliche, but the Rams front office has once again restocked the team with hungry, passionate, and talented players.

This is going to be an exciting training camp and preseason for the team.

Still, Rams fans are not quite satisfied, yet. Despite a solid effort by the defense to end the 2024 regular season and solid pass defense in the NFL playoffs, hopes continue over the belief that the Rams secondary needs a veteran defensive back to carry the defense over the top.

The Rams have been in trade talks with the Miami Dolphins to acquire DB Jalen Ramsey, and that has only served to fuel interest among Rams fans for the front office to make a move to bolster the secondary before training camp arrives. The team had a second veteran cornerback option when the Green Bay Packers released veteran Jaire Alexander. Curiously, any rumored interest in the Rams signing Alexander was quickly shot down by HC Sean McVay.

As a result, Jaire Alexander signed with the Baltimore Ravens at the affordable cost of up to $6 million for a one-year deal:

Were the Rams caught napping as the talented veteran defensive back signed on with a future opponent? Perhaps. It's never easy to sit back and witness a talented player join the ranks of another NFL team, particularly knowing that the other team is on the Rams schedule.

Was Jaire Alexander a bad fit, or a bad decision?

But the Rams are not the right fit for everyone. And an unfamiliar veteran cornerback may not be the right addition right now. After all, the Rams roster is stuffed, and this team has 10 cornerbacks and seven safeties currently on the roster. 17 players vying for what is likely eight roster spots already implies fierce training camp competition.

Perhaps what is more relevant is the fact that the Rams are content with the shape of this secondary right now. With the rapid ascension of CB Emmanuel Forbes, the presence of veteran CB Ahkello Witherspoon in his first Rams training camp, and the healthy participation of veterans Darious Williams and Derion Kendrick, the Rams are confident that a robust pass coverage will be on the menu as early as Week 1.

Did the Rams miss out on a golden opportunity? We may never know. What we do know is that the Rams expressed no interest in signing Jaire Alexander, whatever those reasons might be. Perhaps the Rams were so focused on trading for Jalen Ramsey that the front office was caught napping on what Alexander might bring to the team,.

Be that as it may, the Rams must press on. And as always, thank you so much for reading.
