Rams can exceed even sky-high expectations in these three ways

There is always the risk of going overboard in the offseason. Fans get a chuckle from the perennial praise and accolades for the Dallas Cowboys' quest to recapture their glory of the 1970s. While such acclaim often feels fabricated, the Los Angeles Rams have actually constructed a roster with true potential to reshape the NFL.

Potential is the key phrase.

While national analysts see the highs and the lows, seasoned fans temper expectations and pull back from anyone proclaiming imminent triumph or disaster, eschewing extremes until evidence provides a clearer view of what to expect.

That said...for now potential is all we have. With kickoff two days away, let's look at several ways the Rams could exceed expectations this season.

3 ways Rams can exceed fan expectations

Offensive line performance. Last season's line was a tale of unsung heroes. Rams offensive linemen allowed just 23 sacks in 17 games and opened holes for the seventh-ranked rushing attack. And yet, not one player earned Pro Bowl honors.

The unit the Rams ended with last season is back. And with four of five starters in the last year of their contracts, you can bet they'll be especially physical and motivated this season.

Pairing Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald. The NFL may or may not have seen two defenders on the same line of scrimmage as elite as Garrett and Donald. The latter has been ruled out for Week 1, but the pair's debut is something fans will giddily await.

It's possible that no one has grasped the potential of their combined impact. On their own, either one can single-handedly take over a game. Together, they could establish complete dominance.

And that excludes standout defenders up front like Kobie Turner, Byron Young, Poona Ford, Branden Fiske, and Josaiah Stewart. That's quite a group.

Better chemistry between Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams. Adams recorded 14 touchdowns and 789 receiving yards in 14 games. That all happened in a season in which he caught just 52.6 percent of the passes thrown his way. Had he been at his peak, his numbers could have been far more impressive.

Peak Adams could be back this season.

When he and Stafford are on the same page, Adams is uncoverable. Stafford is unstoppable. That is how training camp reports presented their new-and-improved chemistry with Stafford healthy and participating.

Both understand that their respective careers are winding down. As such, every pass takes on a more significant meaning. With a diminishing number of opportunities to shine, Adams and Stafford will put their best foot forward on every play.

Adams is a master of deception, capable of creating separation right out of the blocks. And Stafford can thread the needle when he needs to. This duo could be something even more special than last season.
