Rams fans have Les Snead's persistence to thank for landing Myles Garrett

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead is the undeniable master of the blockbuster trade. While other GMs have their own tricks of the trade, he has paved his way to Super Bowls by taking great risks. Ironically, the same trades that appear to be huge gambles often pay off quite comfortably.

Those gambles aren't built out of thin air. Snead works patiently, sometimes over multiple years, wearing down other teams' resolve until meaningful negotiations take place. If they won't budge, Snead is happy to knock the dust off his sandals and move on.

On those occasions, it's worked out for the best as well. In 2022, LA attempted in vain to engage the Carolina Panthers in talks for either running back Christian McCaffrey or edge rusher Brian Burns.

But this offseason, Snead successfully pried away the face of the Cleveland Browns, Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. Years ago, he did the same with Broncos edge rusher Von Miller.
And, of course, he even secured former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

With Stafford and Miller, the team plowed to and through Super Bowl LVI. As Super Bowl LXI awaits in the distance, the Horns believe Garrett can propel them there, too.

Snead knows how to make an offer other front offices can't refuse

NFL insider and analyst Peter Schrager, a reliable source for all Rams, interviewed Browns GM Andrew Barry to capture his insights into how the impossible trade became possible.

Barry cites the typical standards any franchise to engage in trade talks. In any Garrett deal, the Browns wanted value today and in the future. Barry sought a team with a proven track record of pursuing aggressive moves. But most of all, he prioritized engaging with a trustworthy trade partner.

Not only did Snead check all the boxes, but he ultimately agreed to include 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse in the package. No other GM was willing to put up an elite young player to seal the deal. Snead made the Browns an offer they could not refuse.

Snead is frequently involved in blockbuster trades because he dares to be. He will not only listen to any offer, but he is relentless in his willingness to upgrade everywhere on the roster. He gets turned away. No doubt some of those phone calls end quickly.

But his persistence pays off. Just months ago, fans would have laughed at the notion of LA acquiring Garrett. Well, nobody is laughing now, save Rams fans amazed at their GM's consistent ability to pull off miraculous trades.
