The last thing Los Angeles Rams fans want to think about right now is the likelihood of losing key coaching staff to restock the coaching roles vacated around the NFL. Right now, teams are focusing on head coaching roles, and LA has a trio of candidates in the mix for open positions around the league.

Still, the latest news has been positive. That is, teams appear to be focusing on coaching candidates not currently on Los Angeles' coaching staff. While that may not be great news for the coaches, it's worth celebrating by a fanbase that routinely loses key coaches to other teams on an annual basis. And this year has lined up to be no different.

But even if the coaching staff remains intact after all head coaching positions are filled, those teams will still need to reconstruct entirely new staffs, and LA's coaches are up for grabs then as well. But so far, so good. Let's catch you up to date on the latest updates from the NFL in terms of filling open head coaching roles.

Rams fans can celebrate latest NFL updates on head coach searches

1. DC Chris Shula

Chris Shula is the name that was red hot early in 2025. But a regressing defense has caused some teams to pause and reconsider. That's just fine for Rams defensive continuity.

2. OC Mike LaFleur

Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is getting overlooked, but he could be the true star of the coaching staff this season. Surprisingly, he did not get much of a bump in interest despite his brother's unexpected extension talks with the Green Bay Packers.

Offensive Pass Game Coordinator Nate Scheelhaase

Even fans of the LA Rams are still trying to figure out what all the fuss is about for Nate Scheelhaase. He is a rising star on LA's coaching staff and is the only head coach candidate who, if hired away, triggers two Round 3 compensatory draft picks. That compensation is only triggered if he is hired as a head coaching candidate, and would be realized in the form of one Round 3 pick in two consecutive years.

While the team has plenty on its plate with the playoffs, fans can breathe a sigh of relief and perhaps have a mini-celebration. The first NFL head coach for this round has been hired by the New York Giants, and that could lead to more of the same.

Some teams refuse to await the availability of playoff team candidates, while others are. The key is how eager the team is to begin reconstructing its roster. It's clear that the Giants are unwilling to wait, and that has prompted them to finalize a contract quickly.

Rams fans now see a light at the end of this tunnel. While not clear just yet, it's a great wave of updates for fans who relish continuity and consistency on the coaching staff. While there is plenty of time for the situation to change, it's okay to acknowledge the news with a little celebration.

As always, thanks for reading.
