The NFL world has been awaiting a decision from Aaron Donald, as he contemplates a return to the Los Angeles Rams. The all-time great defensive tackle has been pushing himself through workouts to see if getting back on the field is something he really wants to do. Wednesday brought a development that made it seem like Donald’s mind was made up.
Per the NFL transaction wire, the Rams shared that they worked out Donald on Wednesday. Official workouts are usually the last step before a formal signing, so this news made it appear that he could be rejoining the team soon. That’s not necessarily the case.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Donald was working out at the Rams' facility and wanted to wear a helmet. Since he used Rams equipment at the team’s facility, L.A. was required to report it to the league.
Aaron Donald’s Rams workout was only listed due to technicality
Thus, the NFL wire posting was more a technicality than the final step in his return. As things stand, Donald is still grinding through various workouts before he makes an official decision. Fans shouldn’t get their hopes up or be discouraged; it’s all still a waiting game.
The exciting news is that Donald is clearly pushing himself; if wants to, he could be back on the field for the Rams this season. Multiple insiders have predicted that will ultimately be the case. Only Donald knows the real answer, and at this point, he might not even know himself.
Either way, Rams fans will continue to fantasize about Aaron Donald joining a group that added Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie this offseason. With several other stars in the fold as well - Jaylen Watson, Byron Young, Kobie Turner - this can be an all-time great defense.
Considering how good the Rams already is on offense, it’s no surprise that they are favored to win it all. With the Super Bowl in Los Angeles, Donald just has another tempting reason to contemplate a return.
