We aren't quite sure how all of the big offseason questions are going to play out for the L.A. Rams just yet. The Matthew Stafford situation is one to monitor in the coming days, but there's another notable storyline unfolding as well.
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp is going to be playing elsewhere next year, and the Rams are currently trying to find a trade partner for the veteran wide receiver. No matter where he ends up, the Rams will have a giant void in their wide receiver room.
Puka Nacua is now the no. 1 receiver, but L.A. will need to figure out depth going forward. Could they depend on Jordan Whittington? Maybe. But, another route would be to go out and get one of the top wideouts in this year's draft.
In our latest mock, that's exactly what the Rams end up doing.
The Rams kick off this mock draft by trading up in the first round
With the receiver class being top-heavy this year, Los Angeles makes their move after seeing both Luther Burden and Tet McMillan come off the board.
Having moved up seven spots thanks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Rams find themselves the perfect replacement for Kupp.
I find myself partial to Ohio State wide receivers, but that's because they almost always pan out in the NFL. The top prospects out of Ohio State typically end up being great bets, and Emeka Egbuka should be no different.
Egbuka thrives in the slot, which is often where you'd see Kupp do most of his damage. Egbuka is a precise route runner and does a lot of things very well. He isn't going to blow you away with speed or athleticism, but he's more of a jack-of-all-trades type.
Egbuka is a Day 1 impact player for this Rams team and he would compliment Nacua very well. He's just another example of a Buckeye wideout that will enjoy a long career as a pro.
Since the Rams do not have a second-round pick, we'll skip right to their remaining third rounder after trading pick no. 100, which checks in just before the pick they dealt at no. 90 overall.
Last year, the Rams' offensive line saw many injuries and, this offseason, they could end up losing multiple starters due to free agency. It's clear that this group needs some revamping, and the Rams could be in on both interior linemen and tackles.
Here, later in Round 3, the Rams go with Rutgers offensive tackle Hollin Pierce as someone who might come in and steal a starting spot right away. At 6-foot-7 and 344 pounds, Pierce is a tank that can withstand power rushers well. He's extremely long and brings experience playing both left and right tackle.
To conclude this 4-Round mock, the Rams address another position of need by selecting a cornerback who might also have an opportunity to start right away. Mello Dotson stands six feet, 190 pounds and has every bit of starting size on the outside.
Dotson can play both zone and man while possessing tremendous ball skills as well.
