The 12-5 Los Angeles Rams split with the 14-3 Seattle Seahawks during the regular season. While that fact alone positions LA as an ideal matchup for the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game, we're just scratching the surface. The two teams are about as evenly matched as two NFL teams can be.
Even their history is too close to call between the two contenders.
The total scores for the two games come out ever-so-slightly in Los Angeles\'s favor, 58-57. Of the two games played in 2025, the first was a defensive struggle while the second was an open shootout. And as rivalries go, this one is red hot, thanks to Seahawks defender Derrick Hall purposefully stamping on the ankle of LA offensive guard Kevin Dotson.
Television producers are salivating over this one.
The Horns are sputtering throughout the playoffs so far. The 'Hawks are dominating. But seasoned NFL fans know that is just setting up the game to surprise everyone. Even the normally unpredictable Pacific Northwest weather has gone eerily calm for this game.
LA Rams are gold in the postseason
In the 1970s, ABC Sports adopted an innovative approach to televising sports, a departure from typical television programming. It was a sports show dedicated to less-popular sports of its day. Sports like skiing, skating, racing, and swimming were not uncommon events that appeared in the homes of viewers weekly. And the video montage opening was memorable:
The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat.
US sports fans love drama, whether it's on or off the football field. And drama goes hand in hand when the LA Rams and Seattle Seahawks clash on a football field. As much as fans wish to view their team dominating their opponent, the most memorable games are those games decided at the last second.
We have dedicated cliches that automatically remind us of those moments: Hail Mary pass. Buzzer-Beater field goal. A defensive stand. Picking off a pass. For every moment that seals a victory for one team, it breaks the hearts of the other team.
Fans recall those emotional moments seemingly forever.
And so, the LA Rams are competing in the NFC Championship Game. This is the same team that has won two consecutive playoff games by outscoring its opponent by three points. And now, the Yellow and Blue face off with a team that has been an epic stalemate. If you had an interest in making a wager, this one could easily follow the trend and go into overtime.
Their last contest did.
Conspiracy theory or just a great historic matchup? You decide. But know that as you do, there are producers who are celebrating their good fortune. The Rams just did the NFL a huge favor by advancing to the NFC Championship Game, and the world will have a chance to witness what could be one of the greatest football games of all time.
As always, thanks for reading.
