The Los Angeles Rams almost certainly had at least one opportunity to make a huge splash at the NFL trade deadline, and more. Ultimately, demand from NFL teams proved to be high, but the supply was not. Head coach Sean McVay foreshadowed the outcome by sending a hard-to-miss message with nearly 24 hours remaining before the deadline that the team was going to sit this one out
Unlike the past, when the team seemed to need that final piece to shore up the defense, the team is already quite stingy at surrendering points this season. This is only Chris Shula's second season as the defensive coordinator, and it already appears to be his last. He will be a head coach in 2026.
That steered the team into safer seas at the deadline. Why try to create artificial chemistry on defense and disturb the delicate balance that Shula has already formed among his players? In the end, the combination of cost and risk overwhelmed any potential upgrade.
Les Snead stands firm at the moment of trade deadline truth
The New York Jets tempted teams to part ways with their draft picks for NFL stars. Cornerback Sauce Gardner is heading to the Indianapolis Colts. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is on his way to the Dallas Cowboys. And oh so many draft picks are now in the hands of the Jets. Only one team will hoist the Lombardi Trophy,
It's not that the roster cannot be upgraded. But Les Snead wisely did not pay those inflated market prices to find out. Snead is more surgical in his efforts, while Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is more mass assembly at the trade deadline. Different paths to the same destination.
The offense is already loaded with stars. Wide receivers Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, and running back Kyren Williams are all on track for 1000+ yard seasons. And veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford is playing at an NFL MVP level. This offense is humming right now.
The 6-2 Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to success. It's just not come as early as this season in many years. The team is not perfect, but it's improving each week. Ultimately, the roster must find its way without the splash of a household name. Rather, the players must earn their way to the top.
But at the NFL's biggest gambling table, the game's best gambler did not throw away any cards. Snead held. So now, you have to wonder just how good this roster will prove to be. We are all about to find out.
As always, thanks for reading.
