Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead is back with a vengeance, Rams fans. After going on a strict monetary diet in 2023, and then dabbling a bit in the NFL Free Agency market in 2024, it appears that the time of discipline, cautious roster building, and fiscal fitness is over. With news of the team signing this top-tier free agent wide receiver, the Rams are throwing their hats in the ring to contend for Super Bowl LX.

And the 2025 NFL Free Agency market has not even opened for business.

While I continue to gather my thoughts and contemplate the pros and cons of the latest Rams roster rumors, let me be clear that I didn't foresee the team signing WR Davante Adams in 2025. I truly did not. Since the Rams were divesting from WR Cooper Kupp and investing significant funding into young speedy WR Tutu Atwell, I was lulled into a belief that the team was focusing on a youth movement for the offense, particularly at the skill positions.

Clearly, I could not have been more wrong. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport was johnny-on-the-spot, reporting the NFL rumors that the Rams are adding Davante Adams to the team on a two-year deal worth $46 million.

The Rams had the most expensive offense in 2024, but finished in the bottom half in terms of production. With the Rams extending both WR Tutu Atwell and LT Alaric Jackson, renegotiating the contract of starting QB Matthew Stafford, and now signing Adams to a pretty hefty contract, the team will be one of the most expensive NFL offenses this year as well.

Now the question is, will this offense be any more effective?

Much like the addition of Matthew Stafford in 2021, Davante Adams is a 32-year-old veteran wide receiver who has far more potential than has been realized in recent years. A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro wide receiver, Adams arrival to a struggling Rams offense will certainly give the team more capabilities, a second top-tier receiver, and hopefully more opportunities to improve their Red Zone conversions.

Adams was an electric weapon for the Green Bay Packers in his first eight NFL seasons. When he joined the Las Vegas Raiders and QB Derek Carr, he was still quite dangerous. But bad offenses eroded his production to the point where he was simply not nearly as effective as hoped for. Now, the Rams have a chance to restore the luster of the former All-Pro veteran:

Davante Adams was stuck in the unfortunate circumstances over the past two season of playing in an NFL offense that was not exactly top-of-the-line. While you could stretch that statement to include the Rams 2024 offense, the symptoms are far different. For the Rams, the offense was a bit lacking in terms of offensive weaponry. The leading wide receiver in terms of scoring for the Rams in 2024 was WR Demarcus Robinson, who scored eight touchdowns for the Rams. It's expected that Adams will do far better in 2024.

Adams is focused on winning now, and aligns perfectly with Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford. The team was stuck between the two timelines: The team had the option to backpedal and align with a young core of defensive players, or stick with the timeline of Matthew Stafford and try to win now.

It appears that winning now has won out. Despite the imminent trade or release of Kupp, the Rams still boast veteran RT Rob Havenstein, TE Tyler Higbee, and QB Matthew Stafford. Adding Davante Adams to the mix is undeniable evidence that the Rams are back in win now mode. Thankfully, they still have a core of young defenders to build upon for the next chapter.

As always, thanks for reading.
