Throughout the offseason, fans and analysts had one clear expectation for the Los Angeles Rams. With Davante Adams nearing the end of his career and the team pushing for a Super Bowl, it seemed obvious that general manager Les Snead would add another wide receiver for Matthew Stafford.
Instead, the Rams took quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round and ignored the receiver position until picking CJ Daniels in the sixth. They're set to enter the 2026 season with nearly the same receiver group they had in 2025.
But there's still time to make a move, and a clear option just presented itself. New England Patriots wideout Kayshon Boutte is seemingly available for a trade, and the reported cost is worth considering. Per NFL insider Albert Breer, he "could be had for a fifth- or sixth-round draft pick right now, if anyone has an interest in him."
Kayshon Boutte trade cost makes Rams' decision easy
Nobody's calling Boutte a superstar, but he had an impressive season in 2025. In his third season with the Patriots, the receiver put up over 700 yards and seven touchdowns. He dominated defenders down the field, making multiple deep catches for New England. In a relatively sparse receiver room, he became one of Drake Maye's favorite targets.
His skill set aligns perfectly with what the Rams are missing currently. Nacua is elite in the slot, using his physicality and agility to dominate over the middle of the field. Adams is a threat in the red zone and gives Stafford a consistent option against man coverage on third downs. But Los Angeles still needs to add a vertical threat to stretch the field. That's exactly what Boutte can provide.
The former sixth-round pick is entering the final season of his rookie contract. Especially if the Patriots end up trading for AJ Brown, there won't be a clear role for him in New England. As Breer reported, he's likely available at a low cost.
Sure, the Rams have already stretched themselves thin with other moves this offseason, but this trade should be a no-brainer. After all, the Rams won LVI in part by trading draft picks away in exchange for impact players. Why not take a low-risk swing on a player like Boutte, who fits the current needs of the team? He could help Stafford push Los Angeles over the top of the NFC in 2026.
