Rams have two rookie playmakers worth monitoring closely throughout camp

NFL analysts and many Los Angeles Rams fans called on general manager Les Snead to bolster the offense with playmakers in the draft. Snead delivered, addressing tight end and receiver with Max Klare and CJ Daniels, respectively.

But both fans and analysts scoffed. They had already made up their minds that only Kenyon Sadiq (TE) or Makai Lemon (WR) would do. So why did LA select Klare and Daniels, instead?

The Rams rolled the dice on another Oregon tight end, Terrance Ferguson, in the previous draft. Klare is less about finesse and more about physicality. Sadiq might be a premium prospect, but as a hybrid tight-end receiver, he is a Ferguson 2.0. Why double-dip?

With Klare, LA gets an entirely new skill set in addition to a college player with multiple years of robust production. Klare is an investment in the future who can pay dividends in 2026.

At receiver, while Lemon profiles as a high-volume slot target, Daniels is equipped for a more versatile role. He excels at subtle tricks of body language and knows how to place himself between the football and the defender. Daniels is big, burly, and confident, traits that will ensure he gets a chance to earn a role in this offense.

Rams again investing in the future with underrated prospects

The Rams have made it a practice to power their offense behind obscure and overlooked playmakers. In 2025, two of their top weapons were wide receiver Puka Nacua and running back Kyren Williams. Both were drafted on Day 3.

That's how this team rolls. While analysts are mesmerized by heavily scouted prospects, Snead applies a different type of lens to find his best fits. He wants players with a passion and a committed dedication to the sport. He seeks prospects who are confident, talented, and versatile, who have more to offer than they displayed in college.

Which brings us back to Klare and Daniels. Nobody expects either to make more than a ripple of impact this season. But training camp is about to get underway, and that signifies an opportunity for both to make their move up the depth chart. Perhaps more.

Los Angeles thrives through its offense. And the offense thrives through the passing game. While the 2026 roster is saturated with playmakers, the future is a bit foggy. That's why investing now in Klare and Daniels is so vital.

They'll have time to grow alongside quarterback Ty Simpson in weekly practices. But as a bonus, both rookie pass-catchers are candidates to show up on game day. Rams opponents would be wise to track both players' progress in training camp. After all, they could suit up and contribute as soon as this season.
