The Los Angeles Rams made the biggest move of the 2026 offseason, and probably the biggest in years, by acquiring Myles Garrett to bolster an already solid pass rush dramatically. Garrett's arrival all but ensures that the defense will be elite. Hopefully, it's enough to get this team over the hump and back to the Super Bowl.
Naturally, it'll be a tough climb, as the Rams happen to play in arguably the toughest division in the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl in February and took the NFC West crown from the Rams this past season. The Rams traded for Garrett in an effort to nudge past them. We'll see whether the move pays off.
In the meantime, the Seahawks are telling themselves whatever they need to in order to make themselves less fearful of Garrett joining the division. Seahawks tight end A.J. Barner didn't seem too concerned about Garrett's arrival when speaking to NFL Network earlier this week, mentioning that he thinks his squad will be able to slow him down.
A.J. Barner feels confident Seahawks can slow down Myles Garrett
“You know, I grew up in Cleveland, so I’ve seen all the success that Myles has had and got a lot of respect for the player that he is,” Barner said. “When that game rolls around, I’m sure we’ll have a bunch of chip blocks for him and outside zone.”
For what it's worth, Barner did praise Garrett and clearly knows that limiting him will be a difficult task. Nonetheless, he still seems to think his team will be able to contrive some schemes to challenge the two-time Defensive Player of the Year. Rams fans' thoughts on that are probably something like 'Yeah, good luck.'
As we've all seen, it's extremely tough to limit Garrett. With a 23-sack season as proof, he is the best in the game at getting after the quarterback.
But other teams will, of course, believe they can find ways to slow him down. Mike Macdonald has proven to be a great defensive mind, as painful as that is to admit, so if someone can cook up some schemes to throw off Garrett, it'd be him. Seattle's offensive coordinator will be grateful for whatever insights McDonald can provide.
Hopefully, Garrett continues to do what he did best while he was in Cleveland and can help this Rams team return to the Super Bowl and hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Go big or go home, as the cool kids say, and that's what the Rams did. They went big.
