These 4 extensions are screaming for attention in Les Sneads' To-Do stack

Now that Matthew Stafford has agreed to return, these 4 extensions are screaming for Les Snead's attention.

Okay. Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead just checked off a huge 'To Do' from his list. But that hasn't cleared his queue. Instead, four new player contracts are rushing in to demand his immediate attention. After all, this team has 25 pending free agents in 2027, a number that is far in excess of what this team wants to deal with at season's end.

So, who is next on the list? Well, one is painfully obvious.

1. Wide receiver Puka Nacua

The success of any NFL quarterback is his wide receivers, just as wide receivers need a competent quarterback. But when discussing the duo of Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua, it's safe to conclude that their individual talents resonate with elite production. And it's a chemistry that seems to galvanize further with each passing season.

Extending Nacua comes with some risks, but it comes with benefits as well. Undoubtedly, Stafford will be thrilled to throw to Nacua in LA's offense. After outright releasing wide receiver Cooper Kupp, it would be wise for Los Angeles to ensure Stafford's new favorite receiver stays.

Three more natural extensions following Matthew Stafford's new deal

Okay, so once the LA Rams get Puka Nacua extended, what's next? Well, ensuring that Matthew Stafford is protected in the pocket is the next step. That entails extending some offensive linemen.

2. OT Warren McClendon Jr.

It makes the most sense to extend Warren McClendon now rather than later. He subbed in for an injured Rob Havenstein in 2025 and played admirably. Now that he enters training camp as the presumed starter, he should be able to anchor the right side of the offensive line effectively.

If not? Rookie OT Keegan Trost is there to take over.

3. RG Kevin Dotson

While he may be on the other side of 30 years old, right guard Kevin Dotson is too important to part ways with. He is the fire in the bellies of other offensive linemen, a gladiator who takes great pride in pancaking defenders. His play is team-oriented, and not a selfish interest in looking good individually.

Dotson entertains as well as produces. He is the guy who smiles for fans, gets a custom LA Rams haircut for great photo opportunities, and loves this team. He is the glue that this offensive line truly needs in Rob Havenstein's absence.

4. LG Steve Avila

Steve Avila was the first player selected in the now-epic 2023 NFL Draft. And he was not just the best player available, but filled a desperate need on the team. After crosstraining offensive tackles to slide inside to play guard, Avila was a true interior offensive lineman drafted to play inside. But he was good enough to be cross-trained to center, which didn't work out well.

After struggling with injuries in 2025, Avila is not fooling around in 2026. He was called out by head coach Sean McVay for subpar play. Well, until he heard his name called out. Avila is one of the nicest guys in the world, until he isn't. And right now, he is still a bit miffed. Look for him to shatter expectations this season. And that will happen whether or not he signs an extension.

Hopefully, LA inks the deal before he explodes with a career-best season.

As always, thanks for reading.
