While the Los Angeles Rams came up short of reaching Super Bowl 60, the good news is that, assuming Matthew Stafford puts off retirement for another year, this team should be right back in contention again next season. While Stafford has hinted that he's planning on returning for an 18th NFL season, the Rams need to ensure he does indeed come back in 2026.
Gilberto Manzano of SI recently authored a list of one move every team in the NFC West should make, and for the Rams, it was to take care of Stafford and wide receiver Puka Nacua.
"If Stafford asks for $60 million next season, the team should gladly give it to him to maximize this latest Super Bowl window it has created after advancing to the NFC title game, where it fell to Seattle.
But the Rams will need to get creative with their salary cap, as Puka Nacua is due for a contract extension, and the secondary could use a few notable free agents.
L.A. should rush to do Nacua’s contract because the price tag could be going up for wide receivers."
Gilberto Manzano hits home with his Rams recommendations
It's hard to argue with Manzano's suggested moves for the Rams this offseason. A massive reason why they were as good as they were was because of Stafford's MVP season and if he wants more money, they shouldn't hesitate to give it to him.
Manzano did point out that Nacua is due for an extension, however, and that's where things could get tricky. There's always a way to free up cap space and kick the can down the road and the Rams could do this by restructuring Kyren Williams' contract and extending Davante Adams and Kevin Dotson.
There's no debating that the Rams are a better team with Stafford and Nacua than without, so making sure both guys get the money they deserve this offseason and keeping them happy is a no-brainer for the front office.
Hopefully, there's not any drama there and the Rams can enter the 2026 season as a top-tier contender for the 2026 season.
