The Los Angeles Rams signed undrafted kicker Cameron Dicker in 2022. At the time, the team hoped that he might become the team's starting punter. But he was a collegiate unicorn, handling both the punting and kicking duties at Texas. But he was more kicker than punter, and struggled to spot the football for the then-starting kicker Matt Gay.
The team unceremoniously released him. Big mistake. Big. Huge.
He didn't disappear. He landed on his feet after several failed attempts to secure a roster spot on an NFL team. After Los Angeles, he tried to earn roster spots with the Baltimore Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles to no avail. He finally landed on the Los Angeles Chargers and, in November 2022, signed on their active roster.
He's never looked back.
Dicker did everything possible to stick with LA, the team that originally signed him. And it surprised more than a few fans when he did not make the practice squad. But 2022 was a crazy year, and NFL teams were re-engineering almost every process due to the COVID-19-impacted season.
Cameron Dicker is among the Rams elite who got away
Not every player who leaves the LA Rams disappoints. Cameron Dicker is an unfortunate example of one elite player who got away. Imagine if the Rams roster, instead of struggling on special teams, boasted the most accurate kicker in NFL history?
Oh, you didn't know that about "Dicker the Kicker"?

Ah, what might have been.
Fans are fed the 'game of inches' cliché every year. But the truth is that even the most insignificant personnel decisions have huge future impacts. Nobody regretted the decision to part ways with undrafted Dicker when he was released in 2022.
Fans may regret that move now. Had the team retained Dicker, he may have been the difference in winning Super Bowl LX this season.
Live and learn.
As always, thanks for reading.
