Researching the upcoming showdown for the Los Angeles Rams traveling to take on the Philadelphia Eagles has proven to be both enlightening and concerning. The visiting team has challenges in pass blocking, particularly from interior offensive linemen. But the home team is not infallible. Philly's pass offense is not very good. And the run defense is not performing as well as expected either.

While nobody is claiming that LA's rushing offense is tearing up the NFL, it has been stubbornly effective through two games this season. Augmented by rushing from wide receivers Puka Nacua and Jordan Whittington, the offense has rushed for 221 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

The offense may not be run-only, but it's known that the passing game relies heavily upon play-action. Play-action in the offense relies upon a strong running game. That primer helps to decipher the offensive eruption for 23 points in the second half in Week 2. That coincided with running back Blake Corum's burst for five rushes and 44 yards.

Rams may be able to run on the Eagles in Week 3

Philly may be 2-0, but the defense is not defending the run as well as expected. Allowing 120 rushing yards per game, its defense comes in as the 21st-ranked run defense. Los Angeles has allowed 111.5 rushing yards per game, tying it as the 17th-ranked run defense with the Baltimore Ravens and the New Orleans Saints.

While the running back duo of Kyren Williams and Blake Corum has yet to put up explosive plays or even 100+ rushing yards in a single game, the pair has been effective at keeping defenses honest and allowing veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford to do his stuff. After two games, his average of 271.5 passing yards per game has him among the NFL's top 10 quarterbacks.

With a strong opponent on the road, the offense can turn the tables by attempting to get out to a quick lead and then sticking with a ground control running game. It remains to be seen if Jalen Hurts can steer Philadelphia to a win, and Week 3 is as good a time to test that theory as ever.

The Horns have multiple advantages in Week 3, as do the Birds. But in the end, it comes down to which team executes its game plan more effectively and flawlessly. As it stands now, this one could go either way. As always, thanks for reading.
