Is there a QB trade target on the Rams radar?
Of course, the Rams have a knack for picking up quality players who are destined to wind up on other NFL teams' benches. The Rams had been able to pick up IOL Austin Corbett, Coleman Shelton, and even Kevin Dotson by signing the player off the practice squad or trading for that player. And in each case, the results have been phenomenal.
But is there a promising future if the Rams try to pry a young and promising quarterback off another team's bench?
Developing quarterbacks to successfully compete in the NFL is a tricky business. With the rush to push quarterbacks onto the football field, NFL rookie quarterback prospects may not arrive with the prerequisite skills needed to flourish in professional football. But the Rams have already invested quite heavily in a coaching staff that boasts many coaches with proven track records at developing young QBs.
While the only young QB currently on the roster is Stetson Bennett, the team is capable of adding more. One such young quarterback who is destined to sit on the bench is Tennessee Titans' young quarterback, Will Levis.
Through no fault of his own, Levis landed on the Titans' bench the moment that his team drafted rookie QB Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. And now, many NFL experts believe that the Titans have quietly placed Levis on the trade block.
And the Rams are cited as an ideal landing spot for the young quarterback. I agree.
We loved the idea of the Rams drafting Will Levis in the 2023 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, the Titans selected him just three draft slots before the Rams stepped up to the podium. So it was never a question of why the Rams didn't pick him, because he was never within reach. But had he fallen to the Rams, oddsmakers considered the Rams the second-most likely team to draft Levis.
The Rams did draft a quarterback, Georgia rookie QB Stetson Bennett, in Round 4 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Levis has started 21 games in just two NFL seasons. Over that time, he has completed 61.0 percent of his passes, thrown for 3,899 yards, nailed 21 touchdowns, and tossed 16 interceptions. In 1149 offensive snaps, Levis had been sacked 69 times. So while you may not see All-Pro-like numbers from Will Levis, keep in mind that he was often running for his life.
He did manage to carry the football 70 times for 240 yards and one touchdown.
Levis stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 229 pounds. He has the inherent stature of the typical NFL quarterback, and as such, brings a solid foundation to any offense. But like all young quarterbacks, a demotion to the bench is going to squelch his development and desire. The Rams have been incredibly gifted in bringing a player's passion for the game back to life. That has been particularly true of veteran quarterbacks.
Will the Rams view enough value in Will Levis to reach out this offseason? It makes sense to consider a trade now. The team would love to get another young quarterback into training camp. And Matthew Stafford's time as an NFL starter is no longer set in stone for the future.
Will Levis has all of the fundamental foundational pieces to warrant a new lease on his NFL career. The LA Rams are perfectly set up to bring out the best of Levis. And the team has enough time to bring Will Levis along slowly and deliberately.
Yes, it makes sense. But will it happen? Only time will tell. And as always, thanks for reading.
