The Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to the friendships forged among teammates who compete together. And those bonds become more than backyard barbecue invitations. When players depend on one another, they train harder and play smarter. So it was a pure stroke of genius that led general manager Les Snead to tap Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson to join his teammate, Trent McDuffie, in LA's secondary
How did Trent McDuffie handle the news? Well, to say that he is excited to welcome his teammate in Los Angeles is a severe understatement. His emotional reaction on X (or is it still Twitter?) was spontaneous and genuine.

McDuffie is clearly excited about the news. And that's a very good sign for fans who want to see this defense get stingier against opposing offenses, particularly when the team needs to shut them down to seal a win. Two starting NFL cornerbacks are coming to compete in the Horns. And because they are coming as a pair, LA can expect them to arrive already in sync with one another.
Rams fans can thank the Seahawks defense for the template
While the LA Rams offense put up yards and points against the Seattle Seahawks defense, that was not the norm. In fact, the Seahawks secondary earned its reputation as an elite pass defense, and it was led by excellent performances from their cornerbacks.
If it was good enough for the Super Bowl champion Seahawks, it's a good place to start when restocking LA's roster. While Seattle has yet to re-sign one of its outgoing cornerbacks, general manager Les Snead has accomplished a complete overhaul of his secondary.
Keep in mind that the team still has three draft picks in the first two days of the upcoming draft. And right now, there is no position screaming for attention in those first three rookie selections.
With the addition of both Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, the presumed starters for this secondary are Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Quentin Lake, and Kam Curl. Additionally, the team has Emmanuel Forbes, Kam Kinchens, Josh Wallace, and Jaylen McCollough.
On paper, they appear sound.
Once again, Les Snead has done his part. Will this new and improved secondary show up better than ever in 2026? Stay tuned.
Les Snead has only just begun. As always, thanks for reading.
