When is the optimal time for the Rams to get a BYE week in 2025?

A well-times BYE week can make a season. A poorly-timed BYE can break it.

One of the greatest questions to be answered for the Los Angeles Rams comes with learning when the team will enjoy its BYE week this season. The timing of a BYE can make or break a season. And it did make the Rams' season in 2024, as the team skirted a huge issue of early-season injuries. Last season, the Rams' early Week 6 BYE, originally viewed as a challenging week for a pause, proved to be a blessing in disguise.

The Rams limped into the Week 6 BYE with a record of 1-4, but roared out of the BYE to an impressive record of 9-3.

The same can be said of the team's 2023 BYE week. Of course, it happened to fall on Week 10 in that year. But once again, the Rams limped into the BYE week that year with a record of 3-6. But after the BYE, the Rams roared out to a 7-1 record. And much of the difference was a pause in the schedule, allowing everyone on the roster to heal up and rest.

So it's not just a matter of convenience for the Rams roster.

LA Rams HC Sean McVay typically has his team well-prepared after the BYE. The team has generated a 5-3 record after emerging from a BYE week. That works out to an 11-6 record over a 17-game schedule, and I'm certain that Rams fans would be pleased with that sort of season. But there is a monkey wrench in the gears this year.

NFL rumors are confirmed

The Rams have confirmed NFL rumors that they are traveling to London, England, in Week 7 to face the Jacksonville Jaguars. While the game is played at a neutral site (as it is a Jaguars home game), the game will be a huge distance from Los Angeles, California, and will involve a time zone difference of eight hours. That is, a game played at 1:00 pm local time will seem like the game is being played at 5:00 am PT. Talk about a disadvantage.

In 2019, the Rams faced a similar schedule conundrum with a Week 8 home game scheduled against the Cincinnati Bengals. In that year, the Rams played on the road in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, and then played the following week in London, England. The Rams managed to win those two games, but there is more to the matter than that.

The Rams returned home to a Week 9 BYE, but for the first time in Coach McVay's career, the Rams failed to win a Week 10 road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That loss set the team up for a difficult finish of just 4-4 for the final eight games. And in retrospect, it makes sense as the Rams had road games at Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a game at London, England, and finally ending with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, all over four weeks.

With the Rams facing a Week 7 game in England, smart money is betting on the team playing a road game in Week 6 against an East Coast opponent, traveling to England to take on the Jaguars to face the Jaguars, and then returning home for a Week 8 BYE. Hopefully, the Rams can get a home game in Week 9 to ensure that the players and coaches needn't play out of suitcases for a month's duration.

NFL schedule leaks continue to emerge in drips and drops, and we will work hard to bring you the latest so that you needn't constantly Google search. In the meantime, kick back and relax. The Rams are going to show up in a big way once more in 2025.
