Why do the LA Rams only show 7 draft picks in the 2025 NFL Draft?

There is a good reason for the disparity. Here's why . . .

There is no such thing as a cheap draft pick in the hands of Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead. And when it comes to the number and slot of Rams draft picks, fans are fiercely protective of that information. After all, a Round 5 pick can become RB Kyren Williams or WR Puka Nacua. A Round 6 pick can become C Beaux Limmer or WR Jordan Whittington. The Rams scouting department seem to have an uncanny knack for finding diamonds in the rough the further into Day 3 that draft picks fall

While the Rams projected draft picks for the 2025 NFL draft have been increased to eight picks, the Rams official update to the number of picks for the 2025 NFL Draft only reflected seven picks. DId we all get it wrong? Were we a bit optimistic? Well, I was confused along with everyone else on social media when the Rams shared their complement of draft picks for the 2025 NFL Draft, and only revealed seven picks.

So, are we all suffering from mass hallucinations? I went back and reviewed my notes, checked original sources, and confirmed that the Rams will indeed make eight selections throughout the three day event. So why the disparity? The answer lies in the NFL rules that prohibit teams from officially recognizing draft picks received from a proposed trade until that trade is officially recorded via the NFL's start to the new season. The 2025 NFL season begins on March 12, 2025.

In other words, the full complement of draft picks for the LA Rams will be updated as of the start of the new NFL season, which is March 12. We have the projected eight picks listed in our updated future draft picks article. But if clicking to a new article seems like a lot of work, here is what we know about the Rams' eight draft picks right now.

While the official list of draft picks awaits that final update, the Rams number of picks (8) is promising. The natural allotment of picks that the team is given each year is seven. And the Rams have been awarded a compensatory pick due to the hiring of former DC Raheem Morris as the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

The Rams have done a solid job of filling in the potholes that have developed in the Rams' depth chart. While there is still time for more signings before the 2025 NFL Draft, the pace may slow a bit. And that's okay. The Rams only need to address a few positions to form a rock solid roster for the 2025 NFL season.

And with eight picks as ammunition to use in the 2025 NFL Draft, I am confident that GM Les Snead will come through with flying colors again.

As always, thanks for reading.
