3 winners and 3 losers from Rams' first wave of free agency

Of all 32 teams, the Los Angeles Rams have had one of the more eventful offseasons to this point. Of course, it all starts and ends with what the team ended up doing with quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Fortunately, the Rams are still in a good place of contention. But, they've made more moves than just retaining Stafford. Free agency has seen Los Angeles make some key moves to ensure they have both competition and depth, and even slot in a new starter or two at notable positions.

Who has been the biggest winner of the first wave of free agency? That answer is pretty easy, but there are a few others as well. On the contrary, there are, indeed, some players who have taken a step back due to recent signings.

Winners from Rams' first wave of free agency

Matthew Stafford, QB

He knew he deserved another bump in pay, but some didn't know whether or not Matthew Stafford would be receiving it in Los Angeles or on another team. Fortunately, Stafford not only got his deal, but he also avoided having to go to a team like, say, the Las Vegas Raiders. The Rams remain an NFC contender and Stafford gets to be a key reason why.

Ahkello Witherspoon, CB

Before he recently signed another one-year contract to return to Los Angeles, Ahkello Witherspoon might have ended up elsewhere. A free agent, himself, Witherspoon is coming off a season where he started five games and appeared in 13 for the Rams. At the moment, he could be slotted into a starting role yet again.

Davante Adams, WR

This is pretty self-explanatory. The New York Jets are somewhat of a catastrophe, you could say. Davante Adams got out of there and now joins a contending team, as we just finished stating. He gets an upgrade at quarterback, although saying as much might hurt him as Aaron Rodgers is a close friend of Adams.

Jordan Whittington, WR

Cooper Kupp was on his way out, which meant Jordan Whittington could have a much bigger role in Year 2. But, the Rams re-signed Tutu Atwell and went out and signed Adams. Now, Whittington is likely the no. 4 in pecking order. He'll have to continue to wait his turn to make a bigger impact.

Beaux Limmer, C

After a so-so rookie campaign, the 2024 sixth-round pick looked like he might get lucky and go into the 2025 season as the Rams' starting center. While that's still possible, Los Angeles reunited with veteran Coleman Shelton, which makes things very interesting. Shelton has a good amount of starting experience, thus Limmer might not be as confident.

Tyler Davis, DT

Similar to Limmer, Tyler Davis was also a sixth-round pick last year and now takes a back seat to newcomer Poona Ford. Davis, for a moment, was slotted to start up front until the Ford signing.
