Brett Favre: Austin Davis Next Tom Brady, Kurt Warner

Over the past couple of weeks, St. Louis Rams quarterback Austin Davis has taken his fair share of praise as well as criticism. While Jon Gruden compared Davis to Drew Brees on Monday Night Football some others have said that Davis is not the future and is a backup at best.

Southern Mississippi alumnus and NFL great Brett Favre is now weighing in on Davis, the quarterback who broke Favre’s college record is passing yardage, passing touchdowns, and passer rating. Here’s what Favre had to say according to ESPN’s Ed Werder:

Favre also said, that like Warner, Brady, and Hoyer, all Davis needed was a legit opportunity, and now that he has it he can run with it.

Davis’ first season as a starter has been what some might consider to be a successful one. The Rams have been in every game with Davis under center, and had the Rams receivers caught two balls, the team very well could be 4-2 right now instead of  2-4.

More from Rams News

The Rams beat the defending world champion Seattle Seahawks a week ago, which was the first time the Rams beat a defending champion since 1991 when the Los Angeles Rams knocked off the New York Giants and the first time the Rams beat the Seahawks since at home in 2012.

Davis completed 18 of 21 or 86% of his passes against the Seahawks which was also the highest completion percentage ever allowed by a defending Super Bowl champion.

“What we need to have here in St. Louis is a starting quarterback who’s consistently in the game and consistently playing well.” -Les Snead

Earlier this season the Davis also became the first Rams quarterback since Kurt Warner to throw for 300 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in back to back weeks.  It is still very early in Austin Davis’ career, but to hear quarterbacks and analysts go out of their was and speak this highly of Davis has to be a good sign. If Davis continues to impress, the Les Snead and Jeff Fisher will have an interesting quarterback situation this offseason.
