St. Louis Rams Get Visit With Nick Fairley, Wisniewski To Visit Seahawks

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the St. Louis Rams are looking to bring in former Detroit Lions defensive tackle, Nick Fairley in for a visit.

Drafted in the 2011 draft, one selection before the Rams selected Robert Quinn, Fairley totaled 11.5 sacks in 2012 and 2013 playing alongside Ndamukong Suh. After a mid-season knee injury, Fairley was shut down for 2014.

Why This Makes Sense

The St. Louis Rams need some sort of depth inside on the defensive line aside from Michael Brockers and Nick Fairley is at minimum a capable starting defensive tackle. To add him in rotation with Brockers and Donald inside is intriguing.

Why This Doesn’t Make Sense

The St. Louis Rams have four solid defensive lineman. While Fairley would be nice, there is no chance the team gets rid of Donald, therefore what do they do with Brockers. Fairley is a guy that is going to want to start.

The Rams just released Kendall Langford because he was making too much sitting on the bench, therefore paying for a guy who is going to want starting money, doesn’t make a lot of sense. There is a much bigger need on the offensive line. Jeff Fisher needs to get out of Les Snead’s hair on this one(pun intended).

While signing Fairley, as mentioned earlier, would be intriguing and give the Rams five first round picks on their defensive line, they have much bigger needs elsewhere.

One quick update on Stefen Wisniewski. According to Pro Football Talk, the Raiders center is set to visit the Seattle Seahawks. So, while the Rams bring in more top notch defensive tackles, the Seahawks are looking to steal who many believe should be the Rams’ number one free agent target.
