Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley Still Waiting For First 100-Yard Game of 2016

Through six games, the Los Angeles Rams are still waiting for Todd Gurley’s first 100-yard game of the 2016 season.

After taking home Rookie of the Year honors in 2015, expectations were high for Todd Gurley heading into his second season with the Los Angeles Rams, but the running back has struggled to get anything consistent going in the ground game.

Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions was no different for Gurley after he finished with just 58 rushing yards on 14 carries, but the situation was different this time around as the Rams were more successful in the passing game.

Despite the 31-28 loss to the Lions, Case Keenum had a career day as the quarterback threw for more than 300 yards for just the second time in his career while recording four total touchdowns in the process (three through the air, one on the ground).

When taking all of this into consideration, it’s more understandable as to why Gurley failed to break the 100-yard rushing mark again against Detroit, but that doesn’t give him an excuse moving forward.

If anything, Sunday’s strong performance by Keenum could end up benefiting Gurley if opponents begin taking Los Angeles serious in the passing game. So far this season, Gurley has been the unfortunate victim of opponents stacking the box more often than usual due to the team’s inability to move down the field through the air.

With six games already in the books, let’s hope Gurley doesn’t wait much longer to finally record his first 100-yard game of the season as the Rams are quickly falling in the NFC West standings. At 3-3, Los Angeles is going to need all of the help they can get from Gurley on offense as one of the league’s early favorites to win the rushing title is turning out to be quite the disappointment.
