The Los Angeles Rams will host the Redskins, as well as play the rest of the NFC East, giving new head coach Sean McVay a shot at some former rivals.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay will get a shot at facing his former team, the Washington Redskins on September 17, in week two of the NFL season.

McVay will actually get a reunion of sorts as Los Angeles will face the NFC East with road games against the Dallas Cowboys on October 1, and the New York Giants November 5, while hosting the Redskins and “what if” opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles on December 10, with second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Carson Wentz.

Of interest is how much the rookie head coach will bring to the Rams as he prepares them for three opponents he’ll know an awful lot about.

While the offensive coordinator in Washington, the Redskins went 3-3 against the division in 2016, sweeping Philadelphia, splitting with the New York Giants and getting swept by the Dallas Cowboys.

Will that provide any edge for the Rams in 2017?

That will remain to be seen. But it won’t hurt with McVay having gone 12 rounds, three times with what most NFL observers say is the the best division in all the league.

As I wrote yesterday, the Rams matchup against the Eagles will be interesting because it isn’t a huge leap that Jared Goff could be an Eagle and Wentz the Rams quarterback.

But equally compelling with be McVay facing his old team, as well as him taking his new team to old haunts in New Jersey and Dallas.

It’s hard to predict how well Los Angeles will fare against the NFC East. But expect McVay to have a little something extra for those former opponents.
