The Los Angeles Rams traded Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions on June 15 in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

In a move that many believe was long overdue, the Los Angles Rams parted ways with offensive tackle Greg Robinson on June 15 by trading the former first-round pick to the Detroit Lions for a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Originally, this season seemed like it was going to be Robinson’s final chance to prove himself since new head coach Sean McVay seemed willing to give him one final chance, but at the end of the day, this move was best for both parties.

The Rams had given Robinson every opportunity in the world to prove himself worthy over the last three seasons, only to watch him end up being a disappointment each time. The fact that Robinson led the league with 31 total penalties over the last two seasons is the perfect example of why Los Angeles was feeling so much frustration towards their former lineman, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be missed by some of his teammates.

There always seems to be some sort of shock by players whenever one of their teammates is unexpectedly traded, and that’s exactly how Rams quarterback Jared Goff felt towards Robinson. As Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times recently discussed, Los Angeles trading Robinson was a complete shock for Goff.

"“When I woke up and saw that at first it was a little shocking,” Goff said Thursday night during an event sponsored by the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission at the Coliseum. “But part of the business, man. It sucks.“But Greg was a good teammate, a good friend and wish him the best.”"

With all due respect to Goff, the Rams entered the offseason with improving the offensive line being one of their top priorities, and Robinson was one of many reasons as to why the unit struggled so much during the 2016 season. Maybe if Robinson wasn’t considered one of the biggest busts from the 2014 draft class, Goff and the rest of the Los Angeles offense wouldn’t have ranked at the bottom of the league last year by only averaging 14 points per game.

The good news for the Rams is the offensive line should see a major improvement following the key signing of Andrew Whitworth in free agency to help make life much easier for Goff during his first full year as the starter. And as much as Goff is going to miss Robinson as a teammate, Los Angeles should be thrilled to finally have him off their hands after three very frustrating years of disappointment.
