Option 2- Take Advantage of Free Agency

Jeff Fisher would have to be very ignorant and blind to an obvious situation on the offensive line if he ignored it. They need to fill some holes. The Rams have been let down by free agents in the past, a good example being Jake Long, but in the current situation of the offensive line, the Rams are desperate.

In this situation we are going to assume that the Rams were able bring back Barksdale. In order to open up cap space, the Rams are also going to have to re-structure Jake Long and cut Scott Wells.

If they do keep Long and Barksdale, the Rams would only have holes inside and while they do have cap space, they would probable only have the ability to fill one of those needs in free agency while also being able to sign a mid-tier free agent or two in order to get depth.

A couple of options inside for the Rams are guards Mike Iupati and Clint Boling as well as centers Stefen Wisniewski and Rodney Hudson. Given that the Rams have already filled their guard position with Long, their only true need is at center.

Oakland’s Wisniewski has turned down offers by the Raiders and is most likely on his way out. He is also only 26 and has been a solid on Oakland’s line for four years now. Bringing in the Oakland center would sure up a huge position of need for the Rams.

This doesn’t mean the Rams wouldnt bring in Iupati or Boling, but in order for that to happen, the Rams would have to cut Long so that the need for a top guard is there. If the Rams built there offensive line in free agency, here’s what it could look like:

RT- Joe Barksdale

RG- Jake Long

C- Stefen Wisniewski

LG- Rodger Saffold

LT- Greg Robinson

The Rams fill up a big need inside, but once again there are questions at the guard position. Will Jake Long be able to hold his own and make the transition inside? The did improve at center, but still not a great solution.
