Option 3: The Draft
A lot of what the Rams do in the draft will depend on what the they do with Jake Long and Joe Barksdale. The Rams must bring in a young offensive lineman to develop, its that simple. The Dallas Cowboys proved the importance of having young offensive lineman last season with Zach Martin and Travis Frederick.
So far this offseason the Rams have been mocked two players consistently, Andrus Peat and Brandon Scherff, but as mentioned above, a lot of this depends on what the Rams do with Barksdale and Long. Scherff and Peat are very different players.
If the Rams dont bring back Barksdale then the need for an outside offensive lineman is there and if they dont bring back Long, then they will need offensive linemen inside.

In the situation in which Barksdale does not return drafting a guy like Andrus Peat who is speculated to be an anchor on the outside would be nice, however he is projected to be a franchise left tackle, something that the Rams already have in Robinson. Still Peat, would be a good option to play on the right side.
However, Barksdale has shown he can be a stud when he isn’t playing next to Davin Joseph and if its one player who’s been hurt as much as Bradford, it’s Long. This makes the need inside a lot more present.
In this situation the Rams would be wise to draft Brandon Scherff who many have said that he could be this year’s Zach Martin, and the Rams were interested in Martin last season.
Scherff is a mauler inside with the potential to move outside in the future when Barksdale is either worn out or gone. He is a guy that fits exactly what the Rams do and what they need.
The Rams would have filled a big need inside with Scherff, but there is still a need inside at center. Enter Cameron Erving. Erving is another mauler inside who was a tackle converted center proving that he is versatile. Erving paired with Scherff would be the anchors inside for next ten years.
If the Rams built through the draft, here’ s what the offensive line could look like:
RT- Andrus Peat/Joe Barksdale
RG- Jake Long/Brandon Scherff
C- Barrett Jones/Stefen Wisniewski /CameronErving
LG- Rodger Saffold
LT- Greg Robinson
This is like two options put into one with option B, drafting Scherff and Erving, being the best option. The Rams have had a problem with their offensive line for the last ten years, really ever since they drafted Jason Smith. That all changes here.
The only problem with this option is that the Rams would have three offensive lineman with under three years experience. However, drafting two of these three players would solidify the line for the next ten years and give St. Louis one of the best offensive fronts in the league.
