St. Louis Rams Negotiating With Left Tackle Jake Long
Along with Sam Bradford on the list of St. Louis Rams who have torn their ACL the last two seasons is left tackle Jake Long. According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, the Rams have begun dialogue with the offensive tackle regarding his contract. At the combine, general manager, Les Snead, said that Long had a couple of early rehab setbacks but is progressing.
Snead said retaining Long wouldn’t be a bad thing for the Rams but, like with Bradford, dialogue is open between the two sides. Snead added, “I do think as he rehabs if he can get back to Jake Long previous knee, he can help the team win.”

Long, like Bradford, carries a heavy price tag for 2015. His cap number is $10.5 million and just by releasing him the Rams could save $8-million and would only take $2.5-million in dead money.
The Rams have potential to do damage in free agency and create a splash, however, in order to so, they would need to open up cap space and releasing Long is one way to do so. This just proves to be another example of Jeff Fisher being a little too loyal to his players.
Long signed a four-year, $34 million deal in 2013 with $16-million guaranteed. When the Rams made this deal, they made it so that they could get out of this deal comfortably after the second season.
Of course they hoped that Long would play all four seasons at a high level, but that just hasn’t been the case. Long has torn his ACL that past two seasons and hasn’t resembled anything of a pro bowl left tackle.
The Rams are looking re-negotiate with Long, but after what he has shown the last two years, it might be better to release him. After all, it was Long that got beat leading to Sam Bradford tearing his ACL yet again.
