St. Louis Rams “Close” To Re-Signing Kenny Britt

By the looks of it, the St. Louis Rams will retain at least one of the free agents that fans wanted to team to re-sign at the beginning of free agency. According to NFL.com’s Michael Silver, he expects the team to re-sign Britt soon.

Britt set a career high with 48 catches to go along with 748 yards and three touchdowns in 2014, the second-best statistical year of his career. Britt’s 748 yards were also the most since Torry Holt left the team.

The 26-year old receiver also proved to be a mentor to Brian Quick who broke out in 2014 and was on pace for Holt and Bruce-like numbers before suffering a collar-bone injury.

With the signing of Britt the Rams could still draft a wide receiver, but likely wouldnt have to do so until the second or third rounds. Britt gives the Rams consistency and depth to an otherwise weak receiving corps.

The Rams just traded for quarterback Nick Foles and will need to do everything they can to surround him with weapons as well as protect him with offensive linemen. By signing Britt, the Rams are headed in the right direction.

Britt is a big target for Foles and if the Rams receiver can continue to build some chemistry in his second year as a member of the team, the Rams offense has a shot at greatly improving. The Rams will also feature new offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, who will run the team’s offense.

Nothing with Britt is guaranteed as of yet. The team has yet to announce a deal, this is pure speculation from a respectable NFL insider. However, an announcement like this is at the very least a good sign of things to come.

There is still nothing to report on Joe Barksdale, however, another Rams free agent target that many have kept an eye on is Stefen Wisniewski. The Rams have contacted Wisniewski, however, the center did visit Tampa Bay earlier Wednesday. He has yet to put pen to paper so we could assume no news is good news.
