St. Louis Rams Have Lowest Free Agent Signings In 2015
According to a post from NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal, the St. Louis Rams had the fewest signings in NFL free agency in 2015. The Rams only managed to sign six players and were one of only six teams in the league to manage under ten signings.
Also at the bottom of the list were the Saints(7), Steelers(8), Packers(8), Eagles(9), and Texans(9). Meanwhile you can compare that to the Colts(18), Patriots(18), Ravens(17), Panthers(16), Falcons(16), and Jets(15) who all had more than 15 signings.
This comes as sort of a surprise as the Rams, while it didnt start this way, ended up opening up a lot of cap space by releasing Kendall Langford, Scott Wells, and Jake Long. Not to mention they traded away Sam Bradford and his large cap number.
It’s not like the Rams didnt have holes either. They still have issues on their offensive line and it would be nice to have been able to add depth in the secondary. Instead the Rams have passed on signing players like Stefen Wisniewski and Joe Barksdale who would have greatly improved the situation up front.
However, earlier in the week we looked at the big picture and ahead to the 2016 free agency. The Rams have 26 players of their own who are set to hit the free agent market, most of which came from the RGIII trade.
The Rams have had many early picks because of that trade and many of those players have made of the core of the team. With all of them set to hit free agency at around the same time, the Rams need to do what they can to bring back a good majority of them or the Rams are basically back where they started before the trade.
The Rams may not have used their money to sign big name free agents, however, looking ahead at the big picture, they will now have money that they can use to extend some of their own players that are a big part of this team.
