It wasn’t hard to tell by watching the St. Louis Rams in 2014 that there was a need at offensive line. The Rams finished 2014 with 93 QB hits, (10th most in the NFL), and 47 sacks, (8th most in the NFL). Then during the off-season the need for a lineman became even more evident with the cuts of Jake Long and Scott Wells. It all starts in the trenches on offense, and without a good offensive line, it is very difficult to succeed on offense.
Scherff is just another piece of the pie coming from the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes have produced some great lineman into the NFL, and Scherff is looking like he will be the next one to do just that. As a senior at Iowa, Scherff was a consensus All-American at left tackle and capped it off by winning the Outland Trophy, (best college lineman).

According to cbssports.com, Scherff translates to the next level as being a great run blocker. He is great at getting off the ball and getting his hands on defensive lineman. He has very good upper body strength as well to go along with his great hands. He has a great punch at the point of attack and can drive his man wherever he wants to. He also can shift his weight incredibly well, which can help him turn defenders to create space for running backs.

Weaknesses:
According to cbssports.com, there isn’t a lot of weaknesses in Scherff’s game. He is said to have some “hip and joint tightness”, which gets him into trouble at times. There are injury concerns also when it comes to Scherff. He broke his ankle and leg in 2012, and tore his right meniscus in his right knee last year.
Overview:
Scherff is going to be the real deal. You watch him play, and you can see why he is going to be successful in the NFL. The Rams have to address the offensive line in the NFL Draft, and Scherff wouldn’t be a bad start. He has all the tools to be successful and put that with the fact that the Rams need a lot of help on the offensive line, this is almost a match made in heaven. According to a lot of reports, it is well within reason to think he would be available by the time the Rams draft. If he is there at 10, it would be very hard to pass him up.
