Scouting Report: Louis Trinca-Pasat

The St. Louis Rams have no shortage of depth at the defensive line. Having guys like Robert Quinn, Aaron Donald, and Chris Long is nothing short of a loaded front, but having depth can make or break a defensive line at times. Everybody won’t be able to play every snap, and that’s why the UDFA signing of Louis Trinca-Pasat is very key.

Louis Trinca-Pasat was a 3 year starter at the University of Iowa, and saw a major increase in his production from his Junior to Senior year. Trinca-Pasat was a Second-team All Big-Ten selection his Senior year, which was his highest recognition during his collegiate career. During his senior year he recorded 69 tackles, 11.5 tackles for losses, and 6.5 sacks. Those are pretty eye popping numbers considering he played a 3 technique in college.

Trinca-Pasat was considered by a lot of media outlets to be a Day 3 pick in the NFL draft, but there were concerns of his size, which is why he fell out of the draft. There are reasons to be excited about Trinca-Pasat though. I reviewed tape of the University of Iowa vs. University of Northern Iowa just to get a better look at Trinca-Pasat. There was somethings that jumped off the tape at me. He can convert speed to power with the best of them. He was able to get great jumps off the ball and drive offensive lineman at times 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Another thing I noticed was that he was never getting his weight shifted too much, or getting thrown off balance. That is something that will help him immensely in the NFL. Being able to stay balanced will help him be able to use as much of his strength as possible whenever he can.

This defensive line for the Rams just continues to keep getting more talented and with the addition of Trinca-Pasat, they have upgraded on the defensive line even more. Look for Trinca-Pasat to make a lot of noise during OTA’s and minicamp, and don’t be surprised if he makes the 53-man roster and has a role for the Rams during the regular season.
