Does Nick Foles Have Something To Prove?
Heading into year four, St. Louis Rams quarterback Nick Foles has already proven that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

As a rookie in 2012, Foles played in seven games, completing 60 percent of his passes, leading to 1,699 yards and six touchdowns.
But, heading into 2013, he wasn’t picked as the starter. Veteran Michael Vick started in 2013 for the Philadelphia Eagles but just three weeks into the season, Vick wen’t down with an injury allowing Foles to take over for the remainder of the season.
Foles started the rest of the way and put up numbers that nobody expected. Foles set an NFL record for touchdowns to interceptions ratio with 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He completed 64 percent of his passes and led the NFL with a 119.0 passer rating.
For his accomplishments, Foles was ranked as the 70th best player of 2013. Of the players on the list, he was the 11th best quarterback of 2013.
Foles’ main target Desean Jackson left the Eagles at the end of the year and took his talents to Washington D.C to play for the Redskins, leaving Foles with a weak receiving core heading into 2014.
Foles was named the starting quarterback in week one and had a solid season going before a broken collarbone put him on the shelf for the last eight games of the year. Before the injury, Foles had thrown for 2,163 yards and 13 touchdowns. With no more Jackson, he wasn’t quite the player he was in 2013, but was still on pace to throw for 4,200 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was Foles’ number one target, who had eight of Foles’ 13 touchdowns. After the injury, Maclin caught just three touchdowns over the remaining eight games.
So, how good is Foles? He helped Jackson to his best season yet as a receiver, and took Maclin to new heights as well. So who will be Foles’ new guy to take his former teammates’ place?
He will have several guys to choose from. Kenny Britt, Stedman Bailey, Tavon Austin, Brian Quick and so on. None of the receivers have had as good a year as Jackson or Maclin, but have the potential.
I would rank Foles as a top 15 quarterback at the moment. It would be hard-pressed to find 15 quarterbacks better than Foles at the moment. Now playing in the NFC West, he may be the best pure passer in the division over Russell Wilson, Carson Palmer and Colin Kaepernick.
While Foles shouldn’t have much to prove heading into 2015, many still wonder how good he really is. But, if you ask me, he’s already proved how good he is. And that should excite Rams fans for the future.
