Foles, who broke his collarbone in a win over the Houston Texans a season ago has tremendous upside and the Rams are fully aware of that.

Reports broke early this week that St. Louis has reached out to Foles’ camp in efforts to get the ball rolling on a possible long-term contract extension before the 2015 regular season begins. Foles is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make 1.5 million in 2015.

NFL’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Rams will do everything in their power in order to sign Foles long-term, and avoid him playing out his final season before hand. Foles playing out his final season would put St. Louis in a tricky financial position. He explains that he Rams would also like to avoid having to place their franchise tag on Foles as well.

It comes as a minor surprise that the Rams will try and lock up Foles long-term without even seeing him take a single snap under center. But, it appears that St. Louis will look past his recent injury and look back at his fantastic 2013 campaign in which he posted a 27-2 touchdown to interception ratio and won the pro bowl mvp award. His 27-2 ratio broke Tom Brady’s NFL record as well.

Foles has a lot to prove in 2015. The biggest questions circulating around him are if he can return to his 2013 form? Before his injury a year ago, Foles was up and down, but still showed signs of brilliance. The Rams are hoping he does and as of now, will do everything in their power in order to get him locked up before the season begins.

This may come as a surprise to some, but this is a gamble many teams would take.
