It’s time for the St. Louis Rams to trade tight end Jared Cook

Last Sunday, Todd Gurley was running the show for the St. Louis Rams offense as the passing game was still nowhere to be found. On the bright side, Nick Foles re-bounded from his mess in Green Bay and threw zero interceptions, yet no touchdowns either. If the Rams offense is too much leaning towards Gurley, it could become an one dimensional team.  For the passing game to once again be a threat, Foles and the receiving core needs to step up big time. Unfortunately, one St. Louis tight end has shown no signs of improving.  Jared Cook was going to be the x-factor for the Rams offense, but by Week 7 he has shown no signs of playing an important role in the offense.

More from Rams News

On October 18th 2015, news got out that several teams acquired of trading for Jared Cook. CBSSports.com, Jason La Canfora hinted that

 other teams have inquired

about Cook’s availability. ProFootballTalk.com also came out with a source that said it’s

the other way around

and the Rams are making the calls to teams in hopes of trading away Cook.

All of the trade rumors of Cook were shut down by Jeff Fisher in a recent press conference. He said he has no interest in trading away Cook.  That should have changed with his poorly performance against the Cleveland Browns. Cook was only targeted four times against the Browns, and caught two passes for 19 yards. One of those catches was an 17 yard catch which led to him fumbling and stopping all momentum for the Rams offense. With his 7th season in the league, a fumble should be the last mistake he should be making. A veteran should know after catching a pass, covering the ball and making some yards after a catch would be the ideal thought. First, Cook actually caught the ball which was great, as he had two dropped passes against the Packers, yet ball security hit him this week.

The Rams have played six games so far and Cook only has totaled 188 yards on 17 catches. Per his game by game stats, in the first six games in his first year with the Rams, he totaled 311 yards on 22 catches.  Last year he totaled 320 yards on 26 catches through the first six games.

Clearly Cook is playing below his ability, and with another tight end on the team who actually has totaled more touchdowns then Jared Cook since he arrived, it’s time to focus on Lance Kendricks. Kendricks who was just given a very nice four year deal this past offseason, has been hurt here and there this season, yet Cook is not taking advantage of his opportunities. Another team taking a 7 year veteran could be tough, yet the $7 million dollars on Cook’s contract is all guaranteed. Sources have come out that other teams have called about Cook. If the opportunity is there to trade Cook for anywhere between a 4th-7th rounder in the NFL draft, pull the trigger Jeff Fisher. It’s time for the era of Lance Kendricks.
