One week after his release from the Los Angeles Rams, Nick Foles will reunite with former head coach Andy Reid after agreeing to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

After Kellen Moore suffered a broken ankle, the Dallas Cowboys seemed to be a likely favorite for former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Nick Foles–who was released by the team last week after just one season. Instead, Foles took a different route to reunite with the head coach who drafted him four years ago in Andy Reid.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported on Wednesday how Foles agreed to terms with the Chiefs after drawing interest from numerous teams. Chase Daniel had been a reliable backup for Kansas City over the previous three seasons, but he followed the footsteps of Doug Pederson this offseason by joining the Philadelphia Eagles.

With the lack of competition, Foles should have no problem winning the backup job to Alex Smith for the 2016 season.

Reid’s staff was responsible for selecting Foles in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft and it will be interesting to see what type of impact he can make over the next few weeks in training camp and the preseason games. Despite last year’s disastrous season in which he threw just seven touchdowns in 11 starts, Reid is well aware of what Foles is capable of when looking back at his historical 2013 season in which he threw 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

It’s a shame the Rams couldn’t have worked out a deal with the Chiefs a few weeks ago when they were looking for a trade partner with Foles, but it’s also understandable to see Kansas City wait it out and avoid taking on that lucrative contract.
