In a game decided by defense and field goals, the Los Angeles Rams came up big for their fans in the home opener after defeating the Seattle Seahawks 9-3.

Rams fans have been waiting a long time for a football team in Los Angeles, and even though it wasn’t the most exciting offensive performance, it was entertaining to watch this team defeat Seattle for the third-straight meeting. Despite only winning seven games during the 2015 season, two of those wins happened to come against the Seahawks, and the Rams realize their only chance of competing in the NFC West this season will come down to winning key games like this against Pete Carroll‘s squad.
While it wasn’t the most impressive performance, Case Keenum did enough for the Rams on offense to secure his job for at least one more week after completing 18 of 30 passes for 239 yards with zero turnovers. There was reason to believe Jeff Fisher would consider replacing Keenum with Jared Goff after the rookie was activated as the team’s backup quarterback, but hopefully the veteran’s performance against the Seahawks gives the necessary confidence boost heading into Week 3.

For a team that hasn’t seen a 1,000-yard wide receiver since 1997, Keenum knows he doesn’t have the most impressive group of wideouts on offense, but it was good to see Kenny Britt come up big in the passing game against Seattle. If it wasn’t for the six catches for 94 yards by Britt, chances are Keenum would have struggled to get things going even more on offense.
As for the defense, Los Angeles was happy to see Robert Quinn apply all kinds of pressure to Russell Wilson after the defensive end recorded two sacks to go along with a forced fumble. For a team that heavily relies on the success of their defense, the Rams hope to see Quinn continue this success on the defensive side of the ball playing alongside Aaron Donald.
With a 1-1 record so far, it’s amazing to think the Rams head into their Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without scoring a single touchdown in 2016. Still, a win is a win no matter what, and after the way things turned out opening weekend, this victory over Seattle is just what Los Angeles needed in order to bounce back.
