Rams’ Greg Robinson Bounces Back in Week 13 After Benching

Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Greg Robinson bounced back in Week 13 after being benched last week against the New Orleans Saints.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher might have made the right move in benching left tackle Greg Robinson last week.

Robinson was benched in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints with his family in attendance. Fisher explained the embattled left tackle needed a break, and apparently that break was just what the doctor ordered.

The stats show Robinson was the lone bright spot on what was an overall dreadful offensive performance against the Pats.

As Joe Curley of the Ventura County Star reports, Pro Football Focus rated Robinson as the Rams’ top offensive player in Week 13:

Here is what Pro Football Focus said about Robinson’s game, also per Curley:

"“Robinson was the team’s best run blocker against New England and allowed two pressures in 38 pass blocking snaps.”"

Why Was Greg Robinson Benched?

Aside from poor play, Robinson has been plagued by penalties. The 24-year-old has been responsible for more penalties than any other player in the NFL over the past two seasons.

As a result of those factors and a mini meltdown with the media, Robinson took a seat against the New Orleans Saints and was given time to get his mind right. Hopefully that was just the motivation Robinson needed to step his game up.

Regardless of Robinson’s effort, the Rams’ offensive line as a whole did a bad job protecting No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff.

The rookie signal-caller was sacked four times in the losing effort against New England and he faced constant pressure all day from a Patriots defense that was relentless. To make matters worse, the Rams were only able to muster up 36 yards on the ground and running back Todd Gurley was once again non-existent.

It isn’t often we give Jeff Fisher credit here, but this looks like one instance in which we can do so – at least for now. It’s going to take more than one good game to label Robinson fixed, but so far, so good.
