After missing the start of organized team activities last week for the Los Angeles Rams, it seems like the decision was contract related for Aaron Donald.
The beginning of organized team activities for the Los Angeles Rams last week means the start of the 2017 NFL season is that much closer for football fans, as it’s only a matter of time before training camp officially gets underway. While this year’s OTAs have been filled with plenty of excitement due to the progress of Jared Goff under Sean McVay‘s offense, there was a little concern over the absence of the top defensive star for the Rams in Aaron Donald.

The former first-round pick was absent from the start of OTAs last week, and even though these are voluntary, the speculation is high that Donald decided to skip over issues with his contract. Back in the middle of April, it was a no brainer for Los Angeles when it came to exercising the fifth-year option for the defensive superstar, but when looking at Donald’s production from his first three years in the league, it was clear he deserved to be one of highest paid players in the NFL.
When looking at his high level of production, it seemed like only a matter of time before the Rams would open up their check books, and pay Donald the large sum of money he clearly deserves. While nothing is official at the moment, it appears an update on the situation could be coming sooner than originally expected, according to Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Does this mean there could be an announcement at some point on Tuesday regarding Donald and Los Angeles agreeing to a new deal? It seems like only a matter of time before an update, but at least this gives Rams fans another reason for excitement.

The fact that Donald managed to lead the NFL in 2016 with 31 quarterback hits despite all of the extra attention received by opponents shows how truly special of a player he is on defense. After only winning four games all of last season, the Rams are in a position where they can’t afford to make their defensive superstar unhappy, and hopefully the update regarding Donald is the one fans are hoping to hear the most, which would a new contract extension.
